Experience Deep Sea Fishing in South Africa
My first trip deep sea fishing in South Africa starts with an early morning wake up call at 5:00. I am looking to stay on the coast of the Eastern Cape Province on me beautiful guest house accommodation in Port Alfred. Cook with a sense of excitement that I begin my day with a strong take coffee and food with me for what I hope will have a successful fishing day. The night before I took some Sturgeon (seasickness tablets) just to be on the safe side, because I'm not sure what the Indian Ocean has in store for me am. We make our way down to the boat and prepare everything. We have taken 2 boxes of fresh sardines for bait.
Port Alfred has a river that flows a beautiful marina in the ocean. We have to ensure our exit from the Kowie estuary coincide with low tide time, we have the smoothest exit to the Ocean. Nevertheless, we have to put on our life jackets and ride the waves at the river mouth of the vast Indian Ocean. We are in a butt cat that outstanding ride for the Ocean with the ability to ride over the oncoming waves. Our skipper is Des, an experienced fisherman who knows the waters of this area of ??the Eastern Cape, and asks us to hold on as he takes over the waves crashing speed ahead. This is great and a really exciting start to the day with all my thoughts of a possible seasickness.
We drive for about 30 minutes before we anchor our first. Once we are settled we start to bait our rods and drop our first lines. There are three of us on the boat so Des gives us expert advice on how to bait and some tips on what to do when you get your first nibble on the line. I can not believe how far my line goes before my weight hits the bottom! As soon as my line reaches the bottom of the Indian Ocean I can feel the fish bite. This is amazing I did not expect to feel the bites so firmly. I know try and put into practice Des' tips on how to strike. After several unsuccessful attempts, I have a proper strike and I reel in quickly.
Of course it is a long way and my arms are doing all the work but soon I can see the fish at the end of my line. The feeling is incredible! Des shows me how to bring the fish on board and then how to remove the hook from the fish. The fish is too small to keep but the taste of the catch has left me wanting more. After the fish back to the Ocean I bait again. We spend about an hour in the first place before it. To a new location The Ocean is relatively calm and the weather is superb - always remember your sunscreen as breezes here can be very deceiving.
We are halfway through the day, enjoy lunch on homemade sandwiches and cool drinks. Around on the Ocean we suddenly hear the noise of a familiar spurt of water made by a whale. Des points out the southern right whale about 600 meters away - incredible, these mammals are cruising around near where you fish. We finish lunch and go to a new location. We enjoy in total about 8 hours fishing and catch enough good size fish for dinner later that evening. During the afternoon we discover many white water about a mile away from us - Des heads his boat towards the area and we are suddenly from 1,000 's of dolphins as far as the eye can see. This is an incredible sight and I take lots of photos to capture the moment.
When we got back to Port Alfred I look back on an amazing first experience of deep sea fishing in South Africa. South Africa has miles of coastline with a great choice of accommodation from Guest Houses, Bed & Breakfasts, Lodges and Self Catering venues to be found. From Cape Town through the Garden Route, Durban there are numerous beach on vacation places to stay where you can charter a fishing boat.

Deep sea fishing trip is a whole lot different matter and each experience is different than the other fishermen. Apart from the satisfaction of being able to feast on your own catch, deep sea fishing also provides the peace of the sea and the solitude of the charter. Obviously, deep sea fishing lets you explore the depths. So you would not catch ordinary varieties of fish but strange-looking sea creatures in particular. However, these are seldom caught as these require special equipment.

Selection of the best equipment for sea fishing
As the conditions of river or lake fishing differ from deep sea fishing, the equipment used also differs. Although, the same equipment that is used for river or lake fishing can be used for fishing near the shore of the sea, the equipment for deep sea fishing differs to a great extent. Therefore, choosing the best equipment is very important for a perfect fishing experience.
Where light weight and weak fishing tackle would suffice river fishing, deep sea fishing requires heavy and strong fishing rods as the fishes are much larger and stronger than those in the river or lake in the sea. Fishing rods are available in different materials and the choice simply depends on what you want or expect to catch on your trip.
Heavy graphite fishing rods are ideal for deep sea fishing as they are light in weight and are strong enough to even catch big fish such as shark or marlin. However, they are not flexible and thus not ideal for fishes which try to resist a lot. Do not worry, fiberglass fishing rods are ideal for this type of fish, as they are very flexible and light weight which makes them perfect for a fight with the fish.
Finding the best rod can be a little problematic if you have no experience in buying rods before. Never the less, it is not so difficult that you lose hope for a good rod. The internet is the best place for finding good fishing rods as you can easily hunt for fishing rods far greater number of stores.
The internet can be extensive knowledge about various types of rods available in the markets, what materials are used to it and what kind of fish they are suitable for the offer. You can even buy fishing rods on the internet by visiting the websites of many popular fishing rod sellers. You should always do some research on the products available and read reviews if possible to get an opinion about a particular product.
The hook and lure are also very important for catching big fish. Big bait would invite big fishes while small bait would invite only small fishes as the big fishes would generally ignore. Several kinds of baits and hooks are available which can be used only with a certain type of fish.
Therefore, it is very important that you take the right kind of bait and hook for the fishing trip.
The fishing line must also be chosen carefully so as to support the weight of heavy fishes of the deep sea. Selecting the right equipment is the key to success on a fishing trip and the key to selecting the best equipment is the appropriate use of the Internet.

Pontoon Boat Fishing
What a great way to fishing with the family or just go a few good friends. It's like fishing from your living room!
Pontoon boat fishing can be so much fun. I call it "my living room on the water". You have couches, easy chairs, chairs with backs on them so you can lean back with comfort, a grill if needed, porta potty, swim platform and ladder for when it gets too hot to fish and you want to cool off in the summer time, bimini top for shade, a sink and a cooler for all the necessary beverages and food. All the comforts of home right on the water.
As for fishing, there is plenty of room for everyone to fish comfortably. We have a 24 'long pontoon boat so someone can fish in the back or stern, and one in the front or bow, and two on the sides. Everyone can fish at the same time in comfort standing up or sitting down.
We had many good times catching panfish, northern pike, walleye and largemouth bass to name a few. Someone would toss a bobber or floats rigged with live bait of some choosing such as a worm or a minnow and just relax until you bite one. Others would cast a spinner bait or any other kind of artificial lure hoping to get a pike or largemouth bass or anything else that might be lurking in the lake lure.
When the wind is just right and not too strong, drifting a great way to pontoon boat fish. However, if the wind is too strong a pontoon boat will drift very fast. It acts like a sail a boat sits because it is high out of the water plus if the bimini top up it have to catch the wind like a sail.
Pontoon boat fishing can be very safe for kids because the sides are higher than most fishing boats. Plus a pontoon boat with good size pontoons can be pretty stable. If there are water skiers around you while you are fishing they create a whole track and make any boat unstable just like any other boat. We try to show the boat into the waves when this occurs. When the lake gets busier, we look for more secluded areas of the lake such as bays or river inlets to anchor in. Then we fish near some lily pads or weed beds and take it easy. Sometimes, it might just be where you will find some panfish away from the busy part of the lake.
We still have to get together and enjoy some fishing fun and go swimming in the summer from our pontoon boat. This pontoon boat has provided more than once on the water, fishing panfish and enjoying the family and our friends.
Pontoon boat fishing with the kids was always fun when they were younger. Actually, it's still fun, that they are now grown up. Now they can bait their own hook!

But let's just about the type of boat that you can speak easily build with some woodworking tools, plywood and basic woodworking skills.

However, plywood are still the most commonly used material in boat building as it is cheaper and more available and easy to obtain in any case.

A good fishing boat design would give you a general idea of ??the materials and tools you will need, and you are more or less an idea of ??the work that they need.

Fishing Hook Styles And Uses
These fishing lures are guaranteed to improve your catch rate success
Hook eyes (the "loop" at the front end of the hook)
The place you tie your line or clip your swivel or leeder. Eyes can ringed, tapered, looped, open, flattened, its swivel or needle.
Eyes can also alignments which are either straight or ringed, turned up or turned down.
Shaft (section beginning at the first point of the curve on the eye)
Bend: (section of hook that bends around
Gap: (distance (variable) from the point on the shaft)
Throat: (distance from the bend to the point)
It is important that you realize that gap size and throat length will either help or hinder your hooking of fish.
Now that we have the definition of a hook done, we can move on to bigger fish.
Hook Styles:
If you all hook shapes or styles you have probably put them in 3 categories, live bait hooks, artificial bait hooks and manufacturer use hooks. Live bait hooks include Octopus, O'Shaughnessy, Straight and Aberdeen.
Artificial bait includes Aberdeen, Sproat and Kahle. Manufacturer hooks are used for making artificial flies, jigs, crankbaits and spinnerbaits.
Circle Hooks:
Circle hooks are really a must if you practice catch and release. Let's take a look at what happens when your fish strikes. The mouth opens wide and your fish swallows your bait and hook into its stomach or gut and then starts to swim away. Your hook and bait is then back where it penetrates the lip area drawn.
Other style hooks will just penetrate in the gut area and that's where the problem rises. Even if you cut the leeder, there is a good chance the fish will die anyway, and it is impossible to hook back without damaging and killing the fish. Baiting a Circle Hook is easy, loop your bait into the hook so occurs about half way and make sure the bait does not rotate, just once is good enough. Do fish in the same way as a rule, with or without weight, cast or just peel some line from the reel and make you move your mouse. The idea is to get your bait into your usual strike zone.
Now comes the fun part. You must be the temptation to "jerk" to ignore your line when you set the hook to get a strike. If you do this, defeat the whole purpose of the exercise and the hook will simply do the right pull out of the fish's mouth. If. Above the voltage to it by the strike, you already have to set the hook in a position and grab the lip on its way out
Selecting a hook
Well, you've become a hook scholar you want to rush right out and buy some, right!
Whoa! Not so fast. Here are a few tips you need before you buy. Quality has to be a number one concern. , Not all hooks are created equal just like everything you buy.
- Check the hook to see if the eye is closed all the way
(If it's not your knot could slip off at the most inopportune moment)
- Ensure that the eye is smooth and not full color.
(Otherwise your knot could nick after you linked to)
- The point for sharpness
(Gently, drag the tip across your fingernail, if it starts digging into his sharp)
- That it formed properly
(If it is too sharp bend on contact)
(Barb is proportional to hook size and has the proper shape)
- Temper or flexibility
(Gently flex the hook and watch that it returns to its original shape if it does not it is not tempered, if it breaks it's over tempered)
After all, this is the part that really hurts on a hook. Open your wallet and in foresight say to yourself, "if I only spent a few dollars more, I would mount this giant bass on the wall".
How to Hook Live Worms for fishing
The answer to this question seems simple enough, right? I mean, put a worm on a hook or hooking live worms for fishing is not brain surgery, it's just a matter of bait on a hook. While this is obviously the case if you want to catch more fish and hook live worms for fishing in the most effective way possible there are certain simple rules that should be adhered to.
In this quick article I will outline these simple rules, you, rules that have been learned to fish through more than 50 years experience with live worms. These ideas were used to me by my fishing mentor, a man who live worms for catching fish for many years, introduced more than twenty years ago and since then I have with them. The bottom line is that if you want to know how to live worms for fishing this article will show you hook.
The rules are listed in no particular order and should all be added to your fishing repertoire.
Always use small hooks - Many fishermen make the mistake of using fishing hooks that are entirely too large when creating with live worms for fishing and end up hooking the worm over and over again what I call a worm ball. This is not at all effective, especially for larger and more experienced fish. When using worms for fishing the focus of the offering of the worm and not the hook, which in why small hooks are a must should you. Worms for fishing His hooks, size 6, 8 or 10 (or even smaller) are ideal for fishing with live worms and any hooks larger than size 6 should be avoided.
Hook the worm in a natural manner - When using a live worm for fishing the worm should appear as much as possible like it does naturally. If large worms such as earthworms used it probably means that the worm should be pinched in half to that it appears as natural as possible, and "hang" is not too much of the worm off the hook. To live worms should be used a number of gang hooks in the most natural way possible hooks. Gang hooks have two small fishing village in tandem for fishing with live worms and hooking them hook is perfect bound in a natural way.
Use Light Line - Many anglers tend to fishing line that much too heavy to use when worms for fishing. Many fish have excellent eyesight and can see the fishing line in the water. If the fish are can you try to start to see your line they are less suitable to bite. Again, you want to be the focus of your offering to the worm, nothing else. This is why using light line is very important when worms for fishing.
Now you know the tips on how to hook worms for fishing. Employ these simple tips and start catching more and bigger fish of all kinds.
When a fishing hook is not really a fishing hook
This may seem like a stupid title for an article sound, but it's true. When you think of a fishing hook, what do you think? Just a plain old fishing hook that you put some bait on and try to catch a fish, right? Well my fishing mentor took the concept of a simple fishing hook and transformed it into the perfect fishing hook for all types of bait fishing. I think the concept was used in saltwater fishing, but he brought the concept to freshwater fishing.
This concept is the gang hook. A gang hook is simply two hooks tied in tandem. Two small hooks, hooks that are smaller than you may be accustomed to. With smaller hooks makes the hooks all but undetectable top the fish. It is a beautiful plant. Not only is it a beautiful system, but it is a very effective system as well. Although gang hooks effective for all types of bait fishing, they are the most effective way to present a live worm that I've ever seen.
So how do you get your hands on a set or two of gang hooks? Simple, you can go somewhere like JRW fishing to order and or you can do a little research and tie them yourself. Just do a search on the internet for fishing knots to find out how to "Snell knot" to tie one. Once you tie a Snell knot, you're good to go. Simply tie two in tandem and you've made yourself a set of gang hooks! Now only develop a great way to wear them, and you're ready to catch some fish.
This is when a fishing hook is not really a fishing hook. It is simple, easy and incredibly effective. The bottom line is that once you start using gang hooks, you will not use any other method for fishing live bait, especially worms. It's that simple.
Fishing Tips For Bass - Baiting the hook for the success!
When it comes to fishing tips for bass, baiting the hook will either make or break you. There are some specific things to remember to make the most of your day on the water.
1 The sharper the better - When baiting your hook you want the hook sharp. You can either replace your hooks or purchase a hook sharpener. Hook slightly dulled when hooking random debris or get low. Just like your favorite pocket knife, the sharper the better.
2 Make it look natural - You want to present the bait as naturally as possible. One of the best ways to do this is by using gang hooks. If you are not familiar with gang hooks they worth your time to check into. You will help the most natural presentation possible.
3 The bigger the hook does not mean, bigger the fish - I think this happens quite often. When I learn first how to fish i did the same thing myself. You use a giant hook, wrap the worm on and expect to catch a giant fish. You can easily correct this by gang hooks. You can get much smaller hooks and get a much better effect. Some of the largest fish are caught with the smallest hooks.
4 Are your hands clean? - This could be a bad thing when it comes to fishing. The easiest way to see all the scents that might have to remove your hands, simply rub together with a handful of dirt. Their Hands This will neutralize any scents on your hands and make the bait even more attractive for a potential fish.
This can improve your bass fishing tips for fishing experience. Whether your with your friends on a Saturday afternoon, or fishing with the kids on Sunday morning.
Why gear hooks are so effective as a fish catching tool
Gang hooks are by far the most effective hook up that I will ever use. They help me catch many more fish (especially trout) than other anglers. You may ask: "How these hooks help catch more fish this is not a hook, a hook?" I can understand how you think, exactly, so I'll try to explain why gang hooks are so effective.
First, you probably do not know what a gang hook. A gang hook is only a couple of hooks in tandem connected. That's it, that's all they are. In most cases a gang hook also consists of a pair of hooks, which is much smaller than you are probably used to. I personally use size 10 hooks for my gang hooks, and for those of you who do not know, a size 10 hook is pretty small. So, this is my personal preference to two size 10 hooks in tandem on four pound test monofilament tie.
When other anglers see my gang hook setup for the first time, their reaction is usually that of unbelief. They do not believe that a fish of any size could ended up with a gang hook setup that I will describe. You could not be more wrong. I describe regularly hook and subsequently land twenty inch rainbow and cutthroat trout on gang hooks exactly how I am. Not to mention the fact that I landed trout in the five pounds class and walleye, which is almost eight pounds on the exact setting is described in this article.
The bottom line is that large fish can be hooked and landed on hooks this small and regularly are. With hook and line as small as this requires the angler to "play" the fish for a long time, but what angler has a problem with a good fight? Is not a good fight one of the reasons we choose to fish in the first place? It is quite safe for me.
With size 10 gang hooks has another deadly advantage. (Obviously gang hooks are used for live bait fishing) anglers bait in a completely natural manner with the hooks is shown almost invisible. For example, if half a night crawler is used for bait (my personal favorite) the angler hooks the top of the crawler through the first, then stretched the worm out and naturally hooks the second hook into the body of the worm. If the angler is their bait presented in the air as an outstretched worm holds exactly the same way it will be presented in the water. The deadly thing is that this worm now has to support two hooks in its body to catch your fish.
This is a totally natural presentation. The worm looks the same as if you just grabbed it and threw it into the water. The above factors are the reason why gang hooks are so effective. I suggest you give them a try as soon as you can, you will not be disappointed.

How Fish Finders Work
Fish finders operate under water to map contours, identify objects, including fish, and create an image on the screen everything they find. These are not cameras so the resulting display is not like looking at a video or a photo of the underwater scene. Rather they identify objects using sonar technology and interpret the scene using a graphical representation. With sonar (sound waves) they send signals into the water. When the signal hits an object, it bounces back to the fish finder. With specialized signal processing computations and by analyzing the return signal, this helpful piece of marine electronics you can found a lot of information about objects.
Primary Components
A fish finder consists of two main components, the display and the transducer taken. The transducer is the power source which emits a beam, in the water, returning the processed signal and sends it to the display. The converter can be mounted directly on the outside hull of the boat - called tail assembly, or through a hole in the hull of the boat directly into the water under the boat.
Understanding the Specs
Taper angle refers to the size of the beam propagating in the water, in order to ensure protection. Angle in degrees can be displayed and identified, only the objects in the cone angle. A long, narrow cone focuses in deep waters, while a wide short cone identifies fish over a wider area in shallow waters. Rays vary from about 60 degrees to 120 degrees. Multi-beam Fish Finders use more than one beam set at different angles to cover the water at shallow and deeper depths at once.
The frequency is the strength of the sonar signal measured in kHz. It operates with the cone angle to determine whether the beam is focused on a flat water or deep water. Lower frequencies, the water deeper than higher frequencies (50 kHz low frequency during 192 or 200 KHz high frequency) penetrate.
Screens
Look for high-resolution, sunlight viewable display, making it easy to use different features in strong sunlight. Some fish finders have color displays, while others have black and white. Remember, these are not images but displays as it is sometimes easier to see the contrast in black and white, though color can be effectively used to distinguish different targets such as fish, rock, etc.
Integrated Fish Finder
Most people want different marine electronics components for a variety of different purposes. It may be cheaper, a fish finder, buy combined with a GPS or chart plotter. In addition to saving money as integrated instrument has the added advantage of taking less real estate on your boat's dash.
Buying a Fish Finder Transducer - What You Need to Know
Buy a fish finder can be a daunting task with all the models that are available, but buying a fish finder transducer is even more difficult, especially because the information compares the main features of these devices are generally less prevalent in the boating industry.
First, you should know that a fish finder transducers can be both single and dual frequency models. The most common operating frequencies are 50 kHz and 200 kHz. Models that higher frequencies be used (for example, 200 kHz) more accurate than lower frequency units, but not the same as the depth of penetration of a lower frequency model. So if you go boating or fishing expected in deep water, you will probably want to ensure that you buy a converter operating at a low frequency (either by itself, or as a dual-mode with a higher frequency).
Second, the taper of the fish finder transducer is important because it determines under the boat, the covered area. Obviously, the larger the cone, the larger the area which is covered and the data can be streamed to your fish finder. Typically, the lower frequency models (which have a better depth effect but does not have as much detail as higher frequency models) also typically have wider cones than their higher frequency counterparts.
Finally, you need to decide on the way that the converter, your boat is fitted to. They are typically either a mirror mount (fixed to the back of the boat), or by the holding body (attached to the inside of the hull) sold. While a through-hull mount protects the transducer from the elements and means that it will be less likely to be damaged, much more care is needed to install it properly, and of course the effectiveness of the transducer may be less considering that it is now shooting its beam by the boat in the water.
Whatever the choice, if you do decide to purchase a fish finder transducer, it will certainly help you make the fish, making your boating experience much more fun.

How to Choose a Lowrance Fish Finder
When shopping online for discount marine electronics, such as a Lowrance fish finder, it helps a lot to a little bit about the technology that you understand for shopping. Here is a brief explanation of some of the terms you will encounter.
Cone Angle
Examine first of all use fish finder sonar into the depths of the sea or lake and to determine a picture of what is. Below the water surface If you shine a flashlight in the dark, making the fans a light cone is narrow at the source and wide at the far end. Electronics does the same. The cone angle refers to the propagation of the beam to the distal end, so that a 90 degree beam has more capacity than a 20 degree beam. Multi-beam systems, as the name implies, more than send a cumulative sonar beam provides a much wider field of view. The Lowrance HDS-7 Fishfinder and GPS Chartplotter series offer a stunning 120-degree view with superior clarity and magnificent detail.
Frequency
The frequency of the sonar signal is measured in kHz. In general, the lower the fish finder, the lower the frequency the signal penetrate below the surface. For very deep waters 50 KHz will give you a deep penetration with a relatively narrow cone angle. Have much higher frequencies rather larger cone angle and do not penetrate into the water in the measure. Equipment that is well received by a frequency of 200 KHz, which is suitable in a wide area of ??a flat sea, and can in a finely detailed picture of what lead below the surface. The frequency can be adjusted in the control and dual-frequency options are common.
Fish Hits
When the sonar beam hits an object, it sends a signal to the fish finder. The sensitive electronics in the unit analyzes the characteristics of the return signals, and are able to discriminate between objects and other marine life. Fish targets are typically represented as a fish symbol on your screen.
Thermoclines
A thermocline discloses a layer of water, at a different temperature of water to it. Jump layers form quickly in response to changing conditions or they can be an integral part of a specific ocean area. Lowrance fish finders represent thermoclines as lines on the display.
Transducers
The transducer is the powerhouse of the fish finder. It controls the frequency of the sonar beam and transmits and receives signals that are interpreted by the apparatus in graphs. Three important things about the transducers know how it is mounted on the boat, what frequencies it supports and the cone angle it produces. Transducers frequently for mounting on the transom or hull out of the way of the engine. Rear mounts are the most common and easiest to install. Some models have a high frequency capable transducers may be mounted through the hull, resulting in a complicated installation requiring a hole in the hull can be cut. The Lowrance HDS-7 Fishfinder and GPS Chartplotter series and the Lowrance HDS-5X Fishfinder series with your choice of 83/200 kHz transducer or 50/200-KHz come.
Display
All the detail in the world is not worth much if you can not see it! Many fish finders use LCD color display. In general, the greater the number of pixels the better the quality of the display. Grayscale displays use shades of gray between natural and artificial structures that distinguish the lake below and the nature and size of the fish. CRT displays come at a higher price, but provide higher resolution and better image quality.
Lowrance makes a full range of fish finders provides FF / GPS / chart plotter combos and a wide range of other marine electronics for boating professionals and enthusiasts.

What is a Fish Finder Look
One of the hardest parts of the compilation is a fishing trip, find out what supplies you need to bring. And there are few decisions more difficult or complicated than selecting a fish finder. If you understand what is and what it does for a fish finder, you will be a better decision when you are buying and maybe even save a few dollars as well're ready.
A fish finder is a device that is used basically as a guide - it measures how deep is the water in the area where you can fish and how much ground there is beneath the water. It also indicates where and what types of floating objects in the water. It is particularly useful for fish that you might not be able to see you by places where the fish are probably hidden.
These devices use sonar, such as submarines to measure the distance between your boat and the bottom of the water body. They are also able to measure the size of any other objects in the water. The sonar will only work if you. A transducer on the boat, which is usually installed at the lowest level for maximum performance Once you have added the sonar and the transducer, you must set the speed, it will tell you what speed should move your boat to bring in the most fish.

Guidelines For The Best Time To Go Surf Fishing
What is the best time of the year?
Since I am not considering a particular place, as a rule of thumb I would say, in spring and autumn. Now that does not work if you winter or summer that the surf fishing is bad fish. It most likely simply not stand. That being said, it does not mean that the fishing is excellent in spring and autumn. What it means is that given the same set of circumstances, the fishing will probably be better in the spring and fall. Surf fishing depending on your location can be good year round. If you know what you're doing, it's not hard to catch fish in the surf year round.
What is the best time of the day?
This question is easier to answer. In the early morning hours before sunrise until 9 or 10 clock in the evening an hour or two before dusk. This follows the nocturnal feeding habits of the fish. During the summer, when a lot of the beaches are occupied by sunbathers, dusk might be your best bet after they left the beach. In some areas the rule is no fishing go swimming in the areas of time lifeguard on duty until the time they go out.
What is the best time Tide?
It is no secret that the tides affect surf fishing. Moving water at the surf line is good for fishing. High water is best because it is easier to cast out and reach the deeper water. The window of opportunity is for two hours before high tide and two hours. Slack tide between the ebb and flow is not productive for surf fishing accurate. Low tide in most areas is usually only good for scouting the beach for ideal fishing spots.
What are the best moon phases?
The moon not only plays a role in the tides, it also affects the fishing. Let me explain. The moon produces the most extreme tide changes, referred to as spring tides, during the new moon and full moon. The water moves faster when switching from high tide to low tide and the total change in depth is the greatest. This is the best time to fish the surf. Also, common belief that the full moon the fish feed almost the entire night.
What are the best weather conditions?
The weather is a little more difficult to address because of all the different types of weather factors. An onshore breeze if it is not too strong is a plus. Cold fronts are negative factors. Strong wind and surf is also bad. Strong winds make it difficult to fish and the water clarity is very poor. Low pressure is better than high pressure during a spring tide. If the weather conditions were for the last 24 hours the poor fish will not improve until the fish had a chance to acclimate. Sometimes it may be a day or two, depending on how much was the weather.
Now, after considering all the best times for surf fishing, it's easy to understand how these situations can work together when they occur at the same time. If you are planning to go surf fishing try to take advantage of the time, when several of these conditions overlap each other.
Seven Quick Steps to get started surf fishing right
If you have never fished before you surf written for this product. My goal is to get you so you start with a very simple, easy to follow method available, your first fish in the surf. That's all I want you to be able to do. Just catch a fish, any fish. I do not care if you've never caught a fish in your life. I want to see how exciting and easy it is to do. Then I guarantee you'll be hooked and I will have achieved my goal. Once you catch your first fish of the trust that I want, that you can get. At this point you have the incentive to learn everything about this sport and enjoy many successful hours at the surf line.
Surf fishing is a neglected sport. You do not hear much about it. The ironic thing is that it is probably the easiest to do and the most exciting. How strange is that?
Okay let's get started us.
Get A Surf Rod and Reel Combo
I want you to go to Walmart or one of the big sporting good chains. You have to go to one of them within range of the coastline otherwise they will not wear surf gear. Your budget for a surf rod and reel combo is under $ 69. You can probably find something for around $ 49. (A combo is a combination Rod & Reel)
Pick out any spinning surf rod and reel combo that strikes your fancy. Surf rods are heavier and longer than regular salt water rods. Get something at least 10 'but not longer than 12' If you are the Daiwa combo or the Shakespeare combo that's great find. Otherwise do almost any surf combo. Remember, this is a beginner's introduction. Once you get into it you'll probably want to get more professional equipment.
Get the minimum required Tackle
This will go on for a very short, simple list.
300 yds. of mono filament line 20 GBP Test (if your combo did not come spooled with line)
2 or maybe 3 Pyramid sinkers 3 ounce weight
1 pkg. 2/0 circle hooks (Look at the ready leaders with hooks, so that you can know how to see their facility)
1 pkg. # 2 of Snap Swivel
Get Set Up Your Equipment
Okay, now spool the line on your reel is not, and wrap it on too loosely. Wrap. Their line through a piece of Styrofoam or something that put a little drag on it as fills your role We do not go with a shock leader at this stage deal. You probably will not be that hard casting anyway. If you do not know what is not to worry about a shock leader. You will find, if you know or just look you need. This is too much to get at this stage.
With the hook and sinker you go one of two ways. Either one will do the job at this point.
Method # 1
Make a short 12 "leader for the hook and tie it on your line about 18" from the end of the line (Remember you saw hooks with leaders at the tackle store). Tie a snap swivel at the end of the line and attach the pyramid sinker it ..
Method # 2
Attach a # 2 snap swivel to a pyramid board and slide on your line so that it can slide freely. Connect the other # 2 snap swivel to the end of the line and attach a leader to it with a 2/0 hook on it.
That's it your surf rig is ready to go.
Learn To Cast
Choose an appropriate location like a park or ball field where there will be no people around. You can tape the hook for safety so that you do not have to pull it off. Now I want you to practice casting until you can cast with a basic amount of control for direction and distance. That's not a bad idea, even if you have some experience. Practice until you are 100 'to 200' cast with a reasonable amount of predictability. If you can do better, that's great. If you throw a lot more you try will have to learn and use a shock leader.
Why You Need To Know About Tides
I have to give you a quick lesson on tides and surf fishing. Find the tide for your location. I'll give you three options. Find them on the internet to look after them in the local coastal newspaper or ask at the local bait and tackle shop.
Find out if you can go to the beach at low tide. Visit the beach and look for variations in the ground. Note spots for pockets and changes in the formation of the bottom, basically where you can cast into deeper water or past a sandbar. If so you better recognize a rip through a sandbar. This will be your target spots to fish.
Choose the right time to surf fish
Okay, now you know where you are to fish and the water will go targeting. Go back to the flood of the charts. Find a time that occurs in the flood in the early daylight hours or around early dusk. It does not matter what you pick. You are about a two-hour window before and after the flood, the fish have four hours fishing time. Now you know when to go fishing.
Get Some Bait
Now it's time to start fishing. Go to the local bait shop. Buy a dozen 3 "- 4" shrimp. (Get a fishing license if you need to a.) Head for the surf and get your gear out. Hook one of the shrimp through the tail about an inch from the end. Cast in the space provided to get in a comfortable chair and hold. If something is not in 20 to 30 minutes in one of the other areas that you scouted at low tide poured happen.
From the information I have given you, at this level of skills you have the best opportunity of landing something very exciting. There is a good chance that you use all your bait catching fish. Any size, any kind just catch something so you can see how it is. Plan to release everything you catch now. You can get into keeping some at another time.
It's not foolproof, but it is very effective. There is a strong likely hood you catch something out for the first time. Not about the possibility that the fish do not care out there. They are there, just take my word for it.
As the weather and moon really affect fishing
Let's start with the barometer. The barometer is a very effective tool for measuring the feeding behavior of fish. The barometer is an instrument for measuring atmospheric pressure. Do not worry, I'll simplify it for you and cut through all the scientific jargon so we can get to what's really important to catching fish. The measure of barometric atmospheric pressure can then be used to predict the weather, and especially for our purposes, are the fish feeding behavior. Have not we all wondered why fish were so easy to catch yesterday, but today you can not even a bite?
You see, when a low pressure front is building, I'm sure you've all heard this term on the weather channel, the barometer is low and dropping and a storm is either present or on the road. If the barometer is high or rising, the weather is fair and dry. Watch the weather on TV, that's what the large capital L or H means on the weather map. L stands for the low pressure and H stands for a high-pressure system.
So what does this mean for me as a fisherman that? Let me explain. The barometer is a very useful tool that will unlock many of the "mysteries" of fishing. They say, "Come on Trevor, is this really true?" The answer is yes, it's true. If the air pressure fluctuates, the impact bubbles in fish. A fish air bladder is what it uses to stabilize itself at different depths of the water. When a fish 'bubble does not feel right it will not want to eat. Do you eat when you feel you have an upset stomach? Now, not even fish.
If the barometer is low or falling, fish will spend most of their time equalizing their air bladder, and the last thing they think about is feeding. If this happens, you will have a difficult time fooling a fish into eating. On the other hand, if the opposite is true, and the barometer is rising, your chances of catching a fish, is far greater, because they feel more for food.
Fish and wild life, what to expect from the weather and can detect when a storm is approaching to a much greater extent than we humans. You have probably noticed that when the weather is nice outside all beings are active and frolicking about. This means that the air pressure is high and stable. On the other hand, if the air pressure is low, you will not see nearly as many animals around and the ones you do will not be frolicking anywhere. Even the cows in your local area are lying down. In times like this it can get pretty quiet at the lake or river. The fish just are not active.
Understanding how fish adapt to changes in their environment an angler better predict a fishes' movement and feeding. Figuring out if a fish is feeding what we in, because that's when you have the best chance to have him interested in the fish. You may know that almost all saltwater fishermen check the tides before. Head out fishing And it is a good strategy because the tides impact fishing. But you have to know what causes the tides to change, do not you? That's right, the moon. And the attraction of the moon, which affects the changing tides is also pushing against some of the world all the time. So the pressure is always there but since water is more easily moved than the ground water upward toward the moon causes the tides raised change. How high the tide rises or how low the low tide may go is largely determined by the position of the moon and the sun.
Knowing and understanding this information is not only important to the saltwater angler though. Freshwater anglers do not deal with tides like saltwater anglers, but the phases of the moon are very important for them as well. What the angler wants on the new moon and full moon periods are to focus on the calendar. The two or three days after these two events will result in more fish activity. It's that simple.
I have my plan and it almost never fails fishing trips to observe these same principles for years. The moon phases are a very real factor in the feeding habits of the fish. I always have more success with the full and new moon periods, than I do at other times of the month, and you can too.
What you as an angler wants to try to do both of these factors have come together at the same time. The perfect weather situation combined with a full or new moon. When this happens, a great day of fishing will, I promise. And if you just pay attention out there fishing when this happens.
Activities Before You Go Out Surf Fishing
The beach at low tide Scout for potential hot spots
Use a tide chart to find out when you can visit the beach at low tide. At low tide, you will be able to see what the bottom is like after the flood in. This gives you a better idea of ??the the spots is that most likely to hold fish. Once you have an idea of ??the bottom formations and learn learn how to surf the read will significantly improve your catch.
Check the tide charts to figure out the best time to fish
Surf fishing at high tide offers the best opportunity for catching fish. If you can fish the surf when high tide occurs at dusk or early morning you will be able to take advantage of the best time to catch the surf line to catch fish.
Check The NOAA weather station for the area you plan to fish
NOAA weather stations are removed to ensure the coastal conditions. They provide a wealth of data useful for surf anglers. The weather plays an important role in the dietary habits of the fish in the surf. Pay particular attention to how the weather has changed in the last 24 hours. Unseasonal weather and cold fronts disrupt feeding habits and food sources. Surf fish need a little time to acclimate and return to normal eating habits. If the weather has not been conducive to good fishing conditions over this last 24 hours not expect the fishing to improve just after changes.
Check the local fishing reports for fishing in the area
Local fishing reports can be very helpful before planning a trip to the surf line for a few hours of fishing. Fishing reports can come from many different sources. Depending on the source, there are several things that you learn.
